ACEITE DE OLIVA VIRGEN EXTRA EL ELIXIR DE LA JUVENTUD

EVOO, THE ELIXIR OF YOUTH

The longest living countries in the world have in common the consumption of extra virgin olive oil. Is EVOO the mythical elixir of eternal youth?

EVOO the elixir of youth

Spain heads the ranking of the healthiest countries on the planet, according to a recent estimate by the North American company Blomberg, which specializes in statistics. This news has created suspicion among the countries in contention for this position, such as Italy, which Spain has unseated for the first time.

In addition, another report, in this case from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, ensures that we Spaniards will be the longest on the planet in 2040. This means that we will take away from the Japanese the scepter that they have held for years and climb above Switzerland, Singapore and Australia, until we are at the top of the world ranking of expectation of life, until reaching 85.8 years on average.

These positive expectations are largely due to the climate, social and rest habits (such as siestas) and food, where olive oil has a lot to say. How do the oldest people on the planet live and what do they eat? This question is solved Dan Buettner in his book The secret of the Blue Zones: eat and live like the healthiest people on the planet.

A common denominator of the lifestyle of these areas is the consumption of olive oil on a regular basis. This occurs, above all, in countries such as Italy and Spain.

Many other studies and investigations reveal the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory power of cells, among other healthy benefits of consuming extra virgin olive oil.

Younger cells, stronger heart

The Heart Foundation exposes the following benefits of olive oil among its benefits:

    1. The intake of extra virgin olive oil helps reduce cardiovascular risk.
    2. It helps control other disorders that increase the risk such as diabetes or obesity.
    3. Incorporating olive oil into the daily diet allows lipoproteins to be more resistant to oxidation (the oxidative process is a determining factor in the development of coronary and vascular diseases, it produces inflammation and arteriosclerosis).
    4. Unlike polyunsaturated fatty acids, olive oil in the diet helps lipoproteins to be more resistant to oxidation, preventing the formation of arteriosclerosis plaques.
    5. Oleic acid, the main component of olive oil, helps to lower LDL cholesterol (harmful cholesterol), without reducing HDL levels (healthy cholesterol).

How to get the most out of the "elixir of youth" in the diet?

The Heart Foundation recommends consuming between 3 and 6 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil daily, taking into account that each portion is 10 milliliters. But, how to take it to get the most out of it?

The best way to extract all the benefits of olive oil is to consume it raw, in
dressings or on toast.

We can also get the most out of it if we use it for cooking. A recent study has revealed that eating vegetables cooked with olive oil increases the body's ability to absorb antioxidants from vegetables.

Talking about extra virgin olive oil is always giving good news. You just have to follow one rule for it to provide us with all the benefits attributed to it: consume the daily ration recommended by experts, between three and six tablespoons a day, preferably raw.

Put this elixir of youth in your diet, you will age later and your heart will thank you.
